The idea for the Perlibahasa book occurred to Sherwan Rozan after a curious conversation with a friend in her garden about how some plants got their peculiar Malay names. With Sherwan’s compulsion to use geometric shapes and abstract patterns, coupled with his sarcastic sense of humour and love of wordplay and puns, led him to compile and illustrate a collection of 30 Malay proverbs featuring animals.
Sherwan Rozan was born in 1989 and grew up in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Sherwan only discovered his true calling in art and design a few years later after graduating university. He is now a full-time Graphic Artist based between his hometown and Kuala Lumpur.
Perlibahasa is Sherwan’s first self-published art book.
